Movies to binge watch on Netflix during lockdown

Whoever thought that a virus would confine us indefinitely to our houses.

The 3rd May lockdown is there and the protocols are pretty strict. And rightly so.. This is the only way to contain this deadly virus.

So stay home, stay safe, look after yourself and here is a list of a few movies on Netflix that will help you get through this.

Minority Report

This is thriller movie with stunning videography.

The storyline has to do with concealed identity, mind games and future predictions.

Tom cruise (playing John Anderton) works for a special unit of the Police called ‘Precrime’ which arrests murderers before they have committed the act.

The Shawshank Redemption

The story revolves around a man (Andy Dufresne plated by Tim Robbins) who serves two life sentences for murdering his wife and her lover. The movie shows beautiful emotions, friendship stories and fabulous acting and in the end,  we are left to wonder if the lead character actually committed the crime or not.

Contagion

The movie is about a highly infectious virus, which has a striking similarity to the virus we are dealing with today

Parasite

This is a South Korean Movie (dubbed in English for us) that won 4 Oscars.

The story is about Kim family struggling to make ends meet. Eventually the son of the family finds a job at a very wealthy household (under false pretence) and soon all the family members get a job at the same place. The story is very interesting and will definitely hold every bit of your attention for all 120 minutes that it lasts.

Marriage Story

This is a story about a divorce, incompatibility and the messy process of how the two people go their separate ways.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of The Lost Ark

My all time favourite and (in my mind) a pitch-perfect throwback to classic pulp adventure story, with a wisecracking hero, dramatically evil villains, plundering of ancient ruins and a treasure that needs to be discovered. Must watch!

The Irishman

This movie stars Al Pacino.. It is a crime drama. It shows the life stories of outlaws over decades of their lives. Don’t expect glamour, but be ready for an intense movie.

Dolemite is my name

An Eddie Murphy starrer, is a story of a struggling singer and comedian working in a record store in the 70s. It’s a comedy and worth every bit of your time..

The Matrix

I know this was made way back in 1999, but still the best Sci-fi action move I have seen.  A computer hacker realises he is living a simulated reality called the Matrix and is an important part of the war between humanity and those maintaining the Matrix. Both sequels, Reloaded and Revolutions, are on Netflix, too.

Step Brothers

When single parents of two overgrown men get engaged, they start a full-fledged sibling war with each other. They both stay with their respective parent and have refused to move out. A movie made in 2008 about hilarious tales of these two men finally growing up!

Roma

A stark black and white film, that tells the story of daily struggles of a house maid working in a wealthy doctor’s house. Its beautiful and its bold in the way its made.

The Meyerowitz Stories

This is about a dysfunctional family that gets together after a long time and tries to sort their differences. Dustin Hoffman plays the head of the family, who has three children, each living under his shadow and dealing with their own issues.

Monty Python and the holy Grail- 1975

Just watch it! Its totally worth the time!

Shadow

It’s a stylish combat sequence.

The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson

Johnson, the pillar of LGBT activism, died in 1993 and her body was found floating in the Hudson River. Police called it suicide, but those who knew her, thought to the contrary. Though this movie doesn’t solve the case, it talks about the history of gay rights movement and is an insightful documentary..

So enjoy watching these movies..

watch out for more posts on shows and movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Love,

Divya.
