Is loving yourself the most underrated secret to looking your best??

We human race are inherently vain. We like to look good, we like to be complimented and we simply thrive on stares of envy and appreciation from all around us..

In our efforts to look our best, we do umpteen things- we buy clothes, shoes. accessories, bags, wallets, makeup, and the list is definitely never ending.

Vanity was once just a woman thing, but now… God.. Men have left us way behind!!

Its a good thing that we are so conscious of how we look. After all, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Over time, people will get to know you for who you are, but the first time you meet them, all they know is what they see.

In all our efforts to put up our best face forward, we forget one very important component: ‘Self- Love’.

When I say, ‘love yourself’, I am not talking about narcissism or selfishness. I am talking about giving enough care and attention to yourself and taking time out just for yourself, every day. I am talking about valuing yourselves and accepting yourselves for what we are. I am talking about loving your flaws and cherishing your positives..

Where there is this love for oneself, there is confidence, there is right attitude, there is happiness, positive vibes and definitely a pleasant company to look forward to.

“Your energy is contagious. So think about what you want people to catch from you.”

-Marieforleo

Here, let me tell you why its so important to love yourself:

1. You accept yourself for what you are.

Know your negative and positive sides. everyone has them, so don’t beat yourself up for the flaws that you might have..

Remember, “Perfection doesn’t exist.”

But accepting your negatives does not mean you stop improving yourself.. You have to improve yourself on a daily basis.

Accepting yourself for what you are helps you realise that you are a person in your own right with your unique traits, qualities and potentials. You don’t feel the need to compare yourself with others or the need to justify yourself as a person. This is a very liberating and a powerful feeling to have, which starts to show in how you carry yourself.

“The only disability in life is a bad attitude.”

2. Your confidence gets a much needed boost.

Let me ask you something, when you need to talk to someone, whom will you approach: a strong and confident person or a shy and timid person??

Definitely the confident one. Right?

Why?

Coz it’s in our subconscious to get attracted towards confidence and charisma.

When we  love ourself, we get confidence, which gives people confidence in us and this in return boosts our confidence and self-esteem even more.

A vicious circle it definitely is!!

“A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success.”

—Joyce Brothers

3. You no more indulge in self-shame.

When you start to love yourself and value yourself, there is no place for self shaming and self torture. You start to work towards improving yourself, while knowing your self worth and with a sense of self-pride.

All this gets reflected on your personality, your demeanour and your attraction quotient has already multiplied a million times over.

Instead of ‘I am not’ and “I can’t’, you move to ‘I am’ and ‘I can’.

4. You concentrate on your positives.

You stop to bother about your weakness and your imperfections(specially the ones that are not in your control) and start to highlight your strong points. You start to cherish yourself, which means you are happy with yourself and that is so awesome!

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.”

-Helen Keller

5. People around you are happy.

With the feeling of self-worth and confidence, the world around us does seem a more beautiful and a more pleasant place. We do tend to look at things with a new perspective, a better perspective. Things will start to look lot nicer, once impossible goals will seem to be lot more attainable and life will be something you will want to live to the fullest.

“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.”

― Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden

Also, since self -love makes us happy, we do smile more, express more and this gives us a happier family and definitely happy and confident kids. Remember, kids always imitate their parents!

6. You can fight any adverse situation.

Life doesn’t always go the way you want it to. It could be a minor inconvenience like unexpected traffic or a major setback in your career, relationships or health, it can bring a major downswing in our lives.

Self-love and self compassion will always bring you back up.

This doesn’t mean, all that we have to do is love ourselves and be compassionate. It means, along with this, work towards improving the situation.

This gives you the correct attitude to deal with any disaster and, personally, I don’t find anything more attractive in a person than the ability to deal with an unpleasant situation calmly and rise back up.

“What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.”

― J. Sidlow Baxter

7. You make for a fabulous company.

When you like yourself for what you are, you are happy, despite the ups and downs that life constantly gives us. these same ups and downs no longer have lasting effect on you, its all just a part of usual life.

Such a person makes for a very good company. They laugh more, smile more and its pleasant to be around them.

Happiness is infectious and so is smile and laughter.

When people constantly seek your company and love to be around you, you definitely feel good about yourself and this in return increases your self worth..

See a vicious circle again.!!

So, love yourself a little more and cut yourself some slack time and again..

Life is beautiful and Oh! so precious.

Enjoy it..

You are gorgeous, beautiful, handsome, ravishing and irresistible in your own right..

Accept that now and be the fabulous you that you were meant to be!!
