Why go Monochromatic?

Why go Monochromatic?

When you feel your wardrobe is getting a bit too predictable, when “what works with what” starts to drive you a little crazy and all the combinations that you try seem a bit stale,  it’s time for a little change.

GO MONOCHROMATIC!

Monochromatic dressing is wearing clothes in the same color. This doesn’t mean one has to dress up in solid black or green from head to toe. The whole fun is to wear different shades and tints of the same color.

Let’s find out how to wear monochromatic clothes and how to style your existing clothes into stylish monochromatic outfits.

Now this might sound easy, but, its trickier than you would think.. It can very easily backfire.

So here are some tips to help you create your own ‘diva’ look.

I

Start by choosing a color that looks good on you, and you feel comfortable in. Never ever wear a color that doesn’t flatter your skin tone or doesn’t go with your hair or eyes or a color you are not comfortable wearing. Once the color is decided, pull out everything you have in that color. Put them together, mix and match and see what combination looks the best.

I personally like hues and shades of brown.

II

While going ‘Monochromatic’, neutrals are always a safe bet and all-black are definitely everyone’s favorite.

This georgette dress with shoulder embroidery and light and dark effect and silver jewelry breaks the monotony of the same color. The darker fabric at the bottom, the loose upper body and the fitted middle, makes the waist look narrow and hides the wide hips.

But don’t avoid the bolder hues. A cobalt blue or a bright red or an orange or even green, can so easily work their magic.

Here she has created a gorgeous monochromatic look with a cobalt blue dress, matching bag and sunglasses and the outcome is breathtaking.

Red, my all time favorite.

There is nothing like too much pink

III

Make your outfit interesting. Add patterns, textures, different hues and tones, maybe a dash of color. . It will add depth and dimension to an outfit, while also allowing you to highlight, or downplay, certain parts of your body. When wearing the same color in different shades, pay attention to how dark or light each piece is. For example, if you have wide hips, you wouldn’t wear light-colored pieces around it. You would wear darker ones, so that they are not emphasized and lighter tone or shade on top. If you want to bring the focus upward, you would wear bottoms with a slightly darker shade and work your way up with lighter, brighter variations of that same color..

Here I have created three different looks with the same outfit.

First with bright blue glasses which gives a great deal of spunk to the whole outfit.

A more calm and serene look!

The woollen scarf in the same color adds a different texture to the outfit.!

White dress, white bag, white shoes. But the self-pattern on the dress gives it a whole new character.

With this black dress, the green bag adds a ‘pop of color’ and it looks extremely striking.

Monochromatic can be done with prints too. Here she has used a pink printed dress with pink heels and matching jewellery for her monochromatic look..

IV

The pieces have to be proportionate and balanced.

Like a loose top has to be worn with something fitted. A flowing bottom has to have a narrow top. Choose accordingly.

These loose pants and knotted top highlights the waist and adds curves to the silhouette.

V

Never forget the importance accessories. They really can alter the whole look.

Monochromatic outfits create a seamless line from top to bottom and therefore make you look taller and slimmer.

So reshuffle your wardrobe and flaunt your  monochromatic outfits and look fabulous
